Purpose

I’m a big fan of Manchester Orchestra, especially their album “Cope.” That’s why I decided to take their album cover and redesign it in the Art Deco style. Art Deco is a reaction against Art Nouveau style. It’s known to have sharp geometric designs and perfectly symmetrical lines. A great representation of the 1930’s and the Industrial Revolution!

The original album (in the sketches) is as basic as can be. Just simple white text on a black background. With the complexities of Art Deco, this seemed to be a perfect album to redesign!

I started by creating the various geometric shapes in Adobe Illustrator. After that, I separated multiple “layers” in order to reconstruct them in Adobe Photoshop. I added a nice gold foil effect to the layers and stitched the back together.
